FAQ

Does Loupr need the internet?

No. Everything — the camera feed, OCR text recognition, AI translation, speech reading — runs entirely on your iPhone. There is no server.

How is Loupr different from Apple's built-in Magnifier?

Apple's Magnifier is fine for the basic case but has a 3.78★ rating because of issues like broken tap-to-focus, lost zoomed snapshots, and a confusing UI. Loupr fixes those, adds AI OCR + translation that Apple doesn't have, adds a senior-friendly UI with big buttons, and offers 5 color filters for low-vision users.

Why does Loupr need camera access?

To show a live magnified view of whatever you point the camera at. The video stream stays on your phone; nothing is uploaded.

How does AI translation work?

Loupr uses Apple's on-device Vision framework for text recognition, then translates via Apple's Foundation Models (iOS 26, iPhone 15 Pro and later) or the system Translation framework on older devices. All on-device, no cloud calls. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Will compressing or saving affect my Photos library?

Only when you tap the "Save" button — Loupr asks iOS to write a snapshot to your Photos library. It never reads from your library and never modifies existing photos.

How do I restore my purchase on a new iPhone?

Settings → Restore Purchases. As long as you're signed into the same Apple ID, Pro will unlock automatically.

I want a refund.

Apple handles refunds, not us. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and request a refund. Apple usually approves these for legitimate cases. If something specifically is wrong with the app, please email us first — we'd rather fix it.

Is this a medical device or vision aid?

No. Loupr is a general-purpose magnifier — useful for reading menus, labels, and fine print. It is not a medical device, not a substitute for prescription eyewear, not a diagnostic aid. If you have a vision condition, please consult an eye-care professional.

How do I use Apple Shortcut integration?

Open Apple's Shortcuts app → tap "+" → search for "Loupr" → pick "Magnify with Loupr" or "Read text with Loupr". On iPhone 15 Pro and later, you can also assign Loupr to the Action Button via Settings → Action Button.
