FAQ

How does Compresso shrink photos without ruining them?

Compresso uses Apple's ImageIO framework to re-encode photos at a chosen quality level (or to hit a target file size). For JPEG and HEIC, this is "lossy" — the file gets smaller by removing detail that's hard for your eye to notice. On iPhone 15 Pro and later, Smart mode uses Vision to detect faces and keep them sharper while compressing the background more.

Why don't I see HEIC / PNG / WebP / Target Size?

Those are part of Compresso Pro ($3.99 lifetime). The free tier handles JPEG compression up to 5 photos per day. Settings → Upgrade to unlock everything.

Will compressing delete my original?

Only if you tap "Delete original after saving" in Settings. By default, Compresso saves a new compressed copy and leaves your original alone.

Where do my photos go after compression?

Nowhere we can see. Compressed photos are saved back to your Photos library (with your permission) or exported via the iOS share sheet. No data ever leaves your phone. See the Privacy Policy for the full story.

How do I restore my purchase on a new iPhone?

Settings → Restore Purchases. As long as you're signed into the same Apple ID, Pro will unlock automatically.

I want a refund.

Apple handles refunds, not us. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and request a refund for the Compresso Pro purchase. Apple usually approves these for legitimate cases. If something specifically is wrong with the app, please email us — we'd rather fix it.

Does Compresso work on iPad / Mac?

iPad: yes (universal). Mac via Apple Silicon: should run as an iPad app; native Mac Catalyst is on the roadmap.

How do I use Apple Shortcut integration?

Open Apple's Shortcuts app → tap "+" → search for "Compresso" → pick "Compress Photos" or "Compress Photos to Target Size". Wire it into any other Shortcut step (Files, Mail, Messages, etc.) — Compresso shrinks the input and hands back the compressed photo.
