Decibo collects no personal data. It is a sound level meter. The microphone audio your phone captures is processed entirely on-device. Nothing about you, what you measured, or how loud it was is ever sent to any server.
iOS asks for permission the first time you launch Decibo. The microphone is used only to measure environmental sound levels for the live SPL meter, session recording, and audio-file analysis. The audio waveform is read frame-by-frame on your device and discarded. It does not get written to disk, uploaded, or shared.
Calibration uses the microphone only to establish a per-device offset value. Your raw audio is processed but never stored.
Recorded sessions (their summary metrics + time-series dB readings) are saved locally in iOS's secure storage. If you opt in to iCloud sync (Settings → Sync history to iCloud), session data is mirrored to your private iCloud account using Apple's NSUbiquitousKeyValueStore. Apple does not share that data with us.
If you enable geo-tagging during a measurement session, Decibo asks iOS for a one-time location fix and attaches it to that session's record. Location is used only to remember where a session happened (useful for noise complaints / real-estate workflows) and is stored locally.
The one-time Pro upgrade ($3.99) is processed by Apple's StoreKit 2. Apple handles payment, refunds, and tax. We receive only an anonymous transaction confirmation that this Apple ID has unlocked Pro.
Decibo is an environmental and occupational sound level meter. It is not a medical device, not a substitute for calibrated professional instruments, not for clinical hearing-loss diagnosis. If you have hearing or audiology concerns, please consult a qualified hearing-care professional.
Decibo has no content unsafe for children and collects no data, so it is suitable for all ages.
